Artist Statement:
Grant Harris is a self-taught artist creating in St. Louis. His career as a clinical psychologist drives an attempt to understand the complexity of human experience and wrestle with the emotional conundrums of existence. With a focus on process, Grant creates geometric abstractions in a vibrant and richly saturated fantastical context. He enjoys the fluidity of gouache and makes frequent use of sprays of blown puddles of color to embrace the chaotic randomness of the paint’s path. Unknown emotions in the black box boiling below consciousness drive each subsequent element of a process-oriented work. Order and chaos are contrasted with strictly delineated geometry and fervent tedrils of color. Themes of accostation are often seen amongst floating orbs while ominousness and foreboding reveal themselves with deeply black orbs.
