Bio:

For over 30 years, Venus Cramer has combined precious materials and found objects, making bold and contemporary art jewelry. Her work is made to adorn the body; it brings a special meaning to the owner and forms an intimate relationship with the viewer and wearer.
Plant life and modern architecture have been major sources of inspiration for Venus. She hopes to capture the struggle between the two contrasting but ever producing forces, as she is compelled by both.
Strong symbolism from ancient Egyptian and Pompeiian mythologies have also influenced her work. Venus is interested in the intricate forms of Egyptian jewelry and relics as well as the fine craftsmanship. The ancient and uninhibited Pompeiian culture intrigues her undiscovered self, in many works that are still open to interpretation…
Venus uses simplistic forms in mind when she creates her predominately sterling silver work. She incorporates various materials to embellish these forms such as 14kt gold, precious stones and found objects. These materials compliment each other in color, texture and surface; defining and unifying the piece.
Most recently, Venus has been working with a wonderful lime green stone called Gaspeite. This stone occurs naturally in the Queensland area of Australia, along with a few parts of Canada, and at this time, has not been found anywhere else on the planet. The color is an unusually bright chartreuse and it enhances her careful selection of unique precious stones to harmonize the brilliant colors and “one of a kind pieces”.
Small scale sheet fabrication is her primary style of creating. Venus is captivated by metal and loves to create and challenge herself as well as the materials. Sometimes the metal has a mind of its own and intuitively she works together composing order out of chaos, but sometimes the opposite.

Artist Statement:

My primary style of creating bold contemporary jewelry is fabrication. I use traditional materials such as silver, gold and precious gems, as well as found objects including fabric, wood and paint.
