Bio:
I never thought my second act would entail becoming a woodworker but through a series of events it happened. My husband is a master woodworker and upon his retirement he built a shop and begin to live his dream. I had retired from teaching and really missed being creative. So, I begin spending time in the shop and learned that woodworking was a lot like teaching. It takes lots of patience, the ability to pivot when one method doesn’t work and planning. Wood, I came to understand is a lot like students. There are some pieces that can easily become anything and have all kinds of potential. But there are those hidden gems that upon first glance looks like more trouble than it is going to be worth. But once you start working with it, sanding those rough spots, cutting out the rot and polishing it you realize what beauty and potential was always there. The teacher became the student under my husband’s tutelage and I could not be happier about how my second act turned out. I get to work with the love of my life and be creative.
Artist Statement:
We start with the tree! We use our own sawmill on all our domestic wood we use. Each CKC creation is handcrafted in our wood shop by only two individuals, the artists. No prefab here!
