Artist Statement:
Born in Portage, Michigan, Rob began advanced art courses in high school, culminating with a BFA from the Central Michigan University Honors College in 2009. After 12 years in Chicago, he traveled back to Michigan to dedicate more time to his painting career.
Never content with one artistic approach, Rob’s artwork is executed with a variety of stylistic qualities. Inspired by classic movements like Impressionism and Surrealism, to more modern fare, such as drip and pour techniques, Rob takes pride in the experimentation, combination, and layering of these processes in his paintings.
One of the overarching principles of Rob’s work is a “by any means necessary” approach to applying paint to canvas. Abstract tools such as discarded cardboard, damaged brayers, or blowing through straws are commonly implemented in marriage with traditional fare such as brushes and palette knives.
Rob currently lives in Portage, Michigan, where he works from his in-home studio
