Artist Statement:
I was one of those kids that read Edith Hamilton’s “Mythology” multiple times when I was a kid and rediscovered the Greek myths as an adult when I dove head first into encaustic painting in 2007. My love of story and my appreciation of the historical significance of an almost lost art led me to create work that celebrates these enduring tales. By encasing objects and ephemera into this material, memories have the ability to persist and remain, revealing layers of time as their own brand of relic. I share this practice through national exhibitions and workshops, inviting others into the layered dialogue between personal, historical, and contemporary experience.
