Artist Statement:
My name is Laura Siliceo-Roman. I was an analytic philosophy professor for over 30 years, teaching philosophy, ethics and logic. I have been an artist my whole life, and I painted primarily realism: landscapes, flowers, people, machines…etc. Realism impresses people, but I began to feel like it wasn’t really artistic, but more simply a matter of technique and practice – a craft. So one day I decided to paint without a subject. This is how my “Organic Geometry” came to be. I still paint realistically on occasion, but my organic geometry paintings have been my primary focus for several years now. I draw designs in pencil with a big compass and ruler, then start painting with acrylic. Which lines I decide to ignore make the shapes. They come straight from my psyche, yet I believe they reflect something about nature, which cannot be represented via realism or language. In philosophical terms, they show something that cannot be said.
