Bio:
DENISE MARTA-BURCH
I trained as an illustrator at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and see stories in each of the murals, portraits, and commissioned artwork I’ve created. Sequestered in my studio during Covid, I found myself surrounded by the robot, ray gun, and rocket ship toys I’ve enjoyed all my life. Suddenly, they all came to life in bright colors, my imagination escaped the confines of earth and my paintings took flight to other worlds.
I regularly get ideas when I sleep. ‘What if’s’ roll behind my eyelids as I dream, and when I wake I often have the design for my next piece. I use many layers of acrylic glazes to get the vibrant colors I love. My mood sometimes changes the art, but usually the art changes my mood and keeps me happy.
I really enjoy attending art fairs and watching the reactions to my work. The smiles, the giggles, the children who run toward my art with eyes wide and arms outstretched.
